Rail warning strike - Warning strike severely restricts rail traffic in MV
The nationwide rail warning strike has led to severe restrictions in regional transportation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The only regular train lines in the state are Wismar-Tessin and Bad Doberan-Müritz, as announced by Deutsche Bahn this morning. Otherwise, an emergency timetable is in place, which is a far cry from the normal service. Individual trains are running on the RE1 line between Hamburg and Schwerin, as well as on the RE3 line between Stralsund/Züssow and Berlin-Gesundbrunnen.
Buses are in operation on the Hamburg-Schwerin and Stralsund/Greifswald-Angermünde routes, as well as between Rostock/Stralsund and Neustrelitz with connections to individual trains on the RE5 line. There is also a replacement bus service on the S2 line between Rostock and Güstrow.
The strike also had a major impact on freight transport, as the train drivers of the logistics company DB Cargo had also stopped work. The warning strike by the German Train Drivers' Union began on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. for freight services and at 10 p.m. for passenger services. It is due to end this Friday at 10.00 pm. The background to this is a wage dispute.
In view of the wintry road conditions, the ADAC had advised commuters to work from home.

The rail warning strike has extended its impact beyond passenger services, affecting the German railroad's freight traffic in Ticino and other regions. Due to the strike, rail traffic on the German railroad's lines in Ticino has been heavily disrupted. This has also led to a significant increase in traffic congestion on roads, as trucks are being diverted to alternative transport methods.
The warning strike has caused a ripple effect, with many regional train services in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, including those between Rostock and Stralsund, operating on reduced schedules or being completely suspended. Passengers are advised to check tariffs and consider alternative modes of transportation, such as buses, to reach their destinations.
In a related development, the German Railways (Deutsche Bahn) has issued a warning to passengers and cargo companies, advising them to be prepared for possible delays and disruptions in their travel plans until the end of the strike. The union representing train drivers has called for a two-day warning strike, which is expected to impact rail traffic significantly during this period.
