Warning strike: schools and daycare centers affected
Closed daycare centers, closed schools and possibly also closed citizens' offices - parents, pupils and other citizens must prepare for far-reaching restrictions in Berlin today. As part of the wage dispute in the public sector of the federal states, the Verdi trade union, the GEW teachers' union, the GdP police union and the IG BAU trade union have jointly called for a warning strike in Berlin.
In addition to daycare centers and schools, the senate and district administrations, police stations, fire departments and forestry companies are also affected. Public sector employees in the other city states of Bremen and Hamburg have also called for work stoppages.
No agreement has yet been reached in two rounds of negotiations. Negotiations are taking place nationwide. Verdi is demanding, among other things, 10.5 percent more money, but at least 500 euros per month over a period of twelve months. For trainees, the increase should be 200 euros. The unions are also demanding a city state bonus of 300 euros for Berlin, Hamburg and Bremen. The employers have not yet made an offer. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for December 7 and 8 in Potsdam.
The federal states' administration, including schools and kindergartens, are bracing for disruptions due to the union-led warning strike. The tariff dispute involving Verdi, GEW, GdP, and IG BAU could potentially impact tariff negotiations in other federal states as well.
