Berlin - Warning strike: S-Bahn and regional trains severely affected

The second nationwide warning strike by the train drivers' union GDL has been underway since late Thursday evening - and is also leading to far-reaching restrictions in rail traffic in Berlin and Brandenburg. "We can offer a few trips on DB's regional services," Deutsche Bahn announced early Friday morning. "However, this is ultimately no more than an emergency timetable, which is a far cry from the normal train service." Some trains were running on the regional express line RE3 between Angermünde and Berlin-Gesundbrunnen as well as on the RE4 between Rathenow and Berlin-Spandau and on the RE5 between Rostock and Berlin.

"Some trains are also running on the RE7 between Bad Belzig and Berlin-Wannsee and between Berlin-Ostkreuz and Lübben," it said. Nevertheless, Deutsche Bahn still recommends that all passengers avoid traveling on Friday or postpone their journey.

Only on four S-Bahn lines will trains be running every 20 minutes on Friday, primarily to connect outlying districts with Berlin city center, it said. These are the S3 (Erkner-Ostbahnhof), the S46 (Königs Wusterhausen-Schöneberg), S5 (Strausberg Nord-Ostbahnhof) and the S9 (Friedrichstraße-Flughafen BER T1-2).

On other routes, Deutsche Bahn is also using buses to provide passengers with an emergency timetable. This is the case on the S-Bahn lines S25 North (Hennigsdorf-Tegel) and S25 South (Teltow Stadt-Lichterfelde Ost), the railroad also announced.
