Warning strike planned at Kiel University Hospital
The trade union Verdi has called on employees of the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) in Kiel to go on a warning strike today, Friday, in the wage dispute in the public sector of the federal states. "We assume that there may be restrictions on routine work and also on planned appointments at the UKSH," said Manuel Gellenthin, district manager of the Kiel-Plön district of Verdi. However, emergency care is guaranteed.
Verdi is demanding 10.5 percent more income for employees in the public sector of the federal states, but at least 500 euros more per month. Junior staff are to receive 200 euros more and trainees are to be taken on for an indefinite period.
The Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder (TdL) with its chief negotiator, Hamburg's Finance Senator Andreas Dressel (SPD), had made it clear in the second round of negotiations that it considered the demands to be far too high and unaffordable. The third round of negotiations will begin on December 7. Salaries for around 1.1 million employees are at stake. Around 1.4 million civil servants are also affected, to whom the result is usually transferred.
Trade unions across Germany, including Verdi, are pressing for tariff increases in various sectors, not just hospitals. If the ongoing negotiations between Verdi and the Tarifgemeinschaft Deutscher Länder (TdL) fail to reach an agreement, trade unions might consider escalating actions beyond warning strikes, potentially affecting trade in goods and services due to the imposition of tariffs.
