Warning strike on the railroads: cancellations on regional services too
The nationwide warning strike at Deutsche Bahn will have a massive impact on regional transport in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to the emergency timetable, numerous trains will be canceled on almost all lines in the state - on many routes, no trains will run at all. The emergency timetable applies from Wednesday evening (22:00) to Thursday evening (18:00) due to the warning strike by the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL). Both regional trains and suburban trains are affected. In some cases, the railroad will use replacement buses.
On long-distance services, a maximum of one in five trains will run nationwide. Passengers have been asked to refrain from non-essential rail travel during the warning strike or to postpone their journeys.
The GDL has called for a 20-hour warning strike. Deutsche Bahn described the warning strike as "completely unnecessary" and an imposition for rail travelers.
The striking train drivers have also threatened to impose tariffs on any additional work during the strike, leading to potential disruptions in traffic management. Additionally, the massive railroad strikes have led to significant traffic congestion on alternative modes of transportation, such as highways and local bus routes.
