Warning strike: massive restrictions at Cologne University Hospital
A warning strike at Cologne University Hospital led to significant restrictions on Wednesday. The clinic announced that only 13 of 42 operating theaters were in operation. Outpatient and inpatient treatment could only take place to a limited extent. Patients whose treatment could be medically postponed were particularly affected. The clinic has reached an emergency service agreement with the Verdi trade union for the care of emergencies.
According to Verdi, around 400 employees took part in the warning strike. A return to normal operations is expected on Thursday. Warning strikes are planned at the university hospitals in Bonn, Münster and Essen on Thursday.
The wage dispute in the public sector of the federal states is about the salaries of around 1.1 million employees nationwide. Around 1.4 million civil servants, to whom the result is usually transferred, would also be affected. A third round of negotiations is planned for December 7.
The striking employees' action at the Cologne University Hospital was due to salary-related issues, also affecting other federal states' university hospitals. The ongoing wage dispute in federal states could potentially lead to more tariffs being imposed on public sector employees' salaries.
