Warning strike in the Thuringian education system: Horts affected
Thousands of employees in the state's education sector have been called out on a warning strike today. According to the education union GEW, after-school care could be particularly affected. According to the GEW, "all or almost all nursery school teachers will be laying down their work" at a number of schools in the after-school care sector. Teaching at schools, on the other hand, is likely to be less at risk. Many teachers in the Free State are civil servants and are therefore not allowed to strike.
Warning strikes in the public sector are planned nationwide on Tuesday - as a means of exerting pressure in the ongoing wage negotiations. The unions are demanding a 10.5 percent pay rise for employees in the federal states, but at least 500 euros per month. The third round of collective bargaining is scheduled for December 7 and 8.
The ongoing wage negotiations have led unions to consider implementing nationwide warning strikes in various sectors, including education. Due to the strike, some tariffs on after-school care services might increase, affecting many parents. Additionally, there have been demonstrations at several universities and schools, expressing solidarity with the education sector workers and their wage demands.
