Warning strike by inspectors: "Park wherever you want!"

The German Police Union (DPolG) and the civil servants' association dbb have declared this Friday a parking ticket-free day in Hamburg. Under the slogan "Park wherever you want!", they called on all employees of the police, the State Transport Authority (LBV) and the Office for Migration to go on a warning strike on Thursday.

They said they were reacting to the continuing lack of an offer from the Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder (TdL), chaired by Hamburg's Finance Senator Andreas Dressel (SPD), for employees in the public sector of the federal states.

"If the employers (TdL) declare the legitimate demands of the trade unions as "unaffordable" and show no willingness to negotiate, then one should not be surprised at the reaction of the trade unions," explained Hamburg DPolG Vice Klemens Burzlaff.

As a result, parking violations will not be punished in Hamburg on Friday. And the evaluation of speeding violations and the licensing of heavy goods vehicles and large-capacity transports for which a fee is charged will also be restricted.

In this context, trade unions in the federal states are pressing for their legitimate demands, but have yet to receive a satisfactory offer from the Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder. This situation might lead to more than just parking-related disputes, as it could potentially affect trade with other regions due to potential tariff conflicts arising from such strikes. Furthermore, the traffic in Hamburg might become chaotic if the warning strike by inspectors affects other transportation-related services, such as the licensing of heavy goods vehicles.
