Warning strike at sparkling wine producer Rotkäppchen-Mumm
The Food, Beverages and Catering Union (NGG) has continued its strikes in the food industry in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the union, employees at the Rotkäppchen-Mumm sparkling wine producer in Freyburg were called out on a warning strike on Friday. This week, several hundred employees have already stopped work at other companies, including the baked goods manufacturer Aryzta in Eisleben and Artiback in Halle.
Among other things, the union is calling for higher Christmas and vacation bonuses and more days off. In Saxony-Anhalt, workers work significantly longer hours for much lower wages than elsewhere, criticizes NGG negotiator Uwe Ledwig. The previous collective agreement was terminated at the end of August. "It is 18 years old and was written off in 2005 from Western collective agreements with Eastern deductions. We urgently need to bring it up to date."
Around 3700 employees work in the companies in the Saxony-Anhalt food industry collective bargaining area. According to the union, there have been two rounds of negotiations on a new collective agreement so far.
The striking workers at Rotkäppchen-Mumm also mentioned the possibility of imposing tariffs on the company's products if their demands are not met. The current tariffs on imported raw materials are causing financial strain for The Company.
