Tariffs - Warning strike at large bakeries in Eisleben and Nordhausen
For the second time in a month, employees of the Aryzta wholesale bakery in Eisleben and Nordhausen have gone on strike. Several hundred employees took part in the warning strike, the Food, Beverages and Catering Union (NGG) announced on Monday. Almost all production lines came to a standstill. According to the union, the background to the second strike within a month is faltering wage negotiations. Among other things, the negotiations are about higher bonuses, a thirteenth monthly salary, more vacation and relief for shift work.
Aryzta claims to be the European market leader for frozen baked goods. Among other things, the company produces bread rolls and other baked goods for large retail chains and the food service industry. According to the NGG, 1200 employees work at the Eisleben site and 165 in Nordhausen. The company accused the union of breaking off negotiations unexpectedly. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for next week (December 12).
