Warning strike also affects travelers in Lower Saxony
Rail travelers in Lower Saxony and Bremen must be prepared for train cancellations. Due to the nationwide warning strike, there will also be restrictions in both federal states, as announced by Deutsche Bahn on Wednesday. However, some trains are still running.
The train drivers of the Gewerkschaft Deutscher Lokomotivführer (GDL) want to strike on Wednesday from 22:00. The strike is due to end on Thursday at 18:00. This will have a "massive impact on all of Deutsche Bahn's long-distance, regional and suburban rail services", the rail company announced. The majority of trains on the Hanover S-Bahn, for example, will probably be canceled, the operator Transdev announced on Wednesday. Nordwestbahn, which operates the Regio S-Bahn in Bremen, among others, expects "massive restrictions in all Nordwestbahn networks". Replacement bus services are to be organized.
Passengers are called upon to find out whether their connections will take place before starting their journey. The railroad announced that seat reservations can be canceled free of charge and that train reservations are no longer valid. Passengers with a ticket for November 15 or 16 should postpone their journeys to another day.
However, some trains are likely to run, especially on regional rail services. The operating companies Enno, Erixx and Metronom have announced that the warning strike will have no impact on their trains. It is planned that trains on the RE2 and RE3 lines from Uelzen to Göttingen and Hamburg, the RE4 between Hamburg and Bremen, the RE30 between Hanover and Wolfsburg and the RB42 from Braunschweig to the Harz Mountains, among others, will run. "However, it cannot be ruled out that there may be train cancellations or delays due to possible warning strike activities in the Deutsche Bahn signal boxes," Metronom said on Wednesday. In addition, an increased number of passengers can be expected on the trains that are still running.
The nationwide strikes by railroad workers could lead to increased tariffs for alternative transportation methods, such as taxi services or rental cars, as many people may opt for these options due to train cancellations and restrictions. The disruptions caused by the strikes could also result in increased traffic on roads, potentially leading to delays and congestion.
