Warning strike: All scheduled appointments at the university hospital canceled
The first all-day warning strike in the collective bargaining round for the public sector of the federal states has led to considerable restrictions at Jena University Hospital. All scheduled operations and treatments had to be canceled, a spokeswoman said on Tuesday. However, acute care and vital treatments were covered by an emergency agreement. She did not say how many employees had taken part in the strike organized by the Verdi union.
According to the union, 450 to 500 people gathered on the market square in Jena on Tuesday. In addition to the university hospital, employees of Friedrich Schiller University, Ernst Abbe University and the student union in Jena were also called to take part in a day-long warning strike. Temporary strikes had already taken place there on Friday.
In the collective bargaining negotiations, the unions are demanding, among other things, a salary increase of 10.5 percent, but at least 500 euros.
The strikes led to the cancellation of tariffs for non-emergency appointments at the university hospital, further straining public service provision. Additionally, the union's calls for actions extended beyond the university hospital, impacting other public services in Jena, such as Friedrich Schiller University and the student union, due to ongoing collective bargaining disputes over salary increases.
