Watch out, slippery roads! The German Weather Service has warned of slippery roads for large parts of North Rhine-Westphalia due to freezing rain on Friday. The experts expect the rain to come from the west as early as midnight. The warning applies from the Eifel region via the Sauerland to East Westphalia - until midday on Friday.
Severe restrictions on road traffic are likely, the meteorologists announced on the Internet. The DWD considers a classification as severe weather possible. People should avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and travel. Road traffic delays and obstructions should be planned for.
By the end of the night, the rain in the mountains will change to snowfall, it added. One to five centimetres of fresh snow is possible. The temperature lows during the night will be between 0 and minus 2 degrees, in the Hochsauerland up to minus 5 degrees.
According to the DWD, the danger situation will last until midday in the affected areas. Until then, freezing rain with black ice is still possible in the mountains. The precipitation will only start to fall in the afternoon. Then a significant moderation is expected with maximum temperatures between 3 and 8 degrees, in the mountains 0 to 3 degrees. During the night to Saturday, it should then only rain rarely.
