- Warning for southwest heat Tuesday, up to 100 degrees.
Hot and humid days are expected by the German Weather Service (DWD) for the Southwest and warn of partial "extreme heat stress". The meteorologists expect the heat peak on Tuesday with up to 37 degrees. This could break the annual heat record of 35.4 degrees at the end of July in Müllheim (Breisgau-High Black Forest). In addition, it will "get increasingly humid", said a spokesperson for the weather service. From the middle of the week, it could therefore storm heavily.
Forecasts show "extreme heat stress"
But first, it will be hot on Monday with up to 36 degrees in the northern Upper Rhine. With humidity and weak wind, temperatures could feel like 40 degrees, as the forecast says. In the mountains, maximum temperatures of 29 degrees are expected. Towards evening, it should become locally wet. The weather service predicts showers and thunderstorms for the mountains and with low probability for Upper Swabia.
The meteorologists also expect "extreme heat stress" on Tuesday with 29 degrees in the mountains and up to 37 degrees in the Electoral Palatinate. "I consider it very likely that the annual heat record will be raised again on Tuesday and will remain in Baden-Württemberg," said the DWD spokesperson. This is the highest temperature measured in Germany this year. In the evening, there can be partial showers and locally heavy thunderstorms.
Even at night at the beginning of the week, temperatures will not drop below 20 degrees in some areas, making two so-called tropical nights possible.
Widespread thunderstorms mid-week
On Wednesday, temperatures will drop slightly and reach highs of 26 to 32 degrees. Then, in the Southwest, there will be widespread showers and thunderstorms. Hail, gusts, and heavy rain are also to be expected, it was said.
The DWD continues to warn about "extreme heat stress," predicting it on Tuesday in the Electoral Palatinate with temperatures reaching up to 37 degrees. The German Weather Service spokesperson alsobelieves that the annual heat record will be surpassed again on this day.
