Wanted woman arrested at "Reichsbürger" meeting
Police have arrested a wanted participant at a "Reichsbürger" meeting in a hotel in the Swabian town of Wemding (Donau-Ries district). Two arrest warrants had been issued for the 57-year-old woman, the police announced on Sunday. Investigators did not disclose the charges for which the woman was wanted. She also had several joints with her, which is why she is now also being investigated for violating the Narcotics Act.
Another participant at the meeting is said to have attacked a journalist on Saturday afternoon. The 67-year-old man reportedly hit the journalist's camera, causing minor injuries to his face. The attacker is now being investigated for assault.
Around 300 people have been taking part in the three-day meeting in the small town in the Nördlinger Ries since Friday. Until the operation on Saturday evening, the police had not entered the hotel. The "Reich Citizens" do not recognize the existence - or legitimacy - of the Federal Republic of Germany, while the Office for the Protection of the Constitution sees "conspiracy theory principles" and links to anti-Semitism.
A second man wanted on a warrant also took part in the meeting. According to the police, however, this was only an unpaid fine, which the 66-year-old then paid on the spot. He therefore remained at large.
The arrested woman's hometown is believed to be in Swabia, as indicated by the location of the meeting in Wemding, a town within the Donau-Ries district. The "Reichsbürger" movement, with their controversial views, has attracted individuals from various regions, including those with criminal records, as evident with the arrested woman's wanted status.
