- Wanted Fugitives: SPD Proposes Legislative Action in the Federal Parliament
The SPD group in the state parliament is pushing for answers from the state administration about the breakouts of four criminals from BKH Straubing hospital and another during temporary release from BKH Mainkofen in Deggendorf. "We need to restore a sense of safety for the public," stated Horst Arnold, the SPD's spokesperson for constitutional law, justice, and parliamentary affairs. The state administration should elucidate the circumstances regarding these breakouts and put into action adequate solutions.
The SPD is particularly interested in learning how the inmates at BKH Straubing managed to obtain a sharp instrument, which they used to threaten and take a staff member captive. They also seek insights into the personnel situation and safety measures implemented in the district hospitals.
Referencing an announcement by former social minister Kerstin Schreyer (CSU) in 2019, emphasizing the priority given to public safety amid plans for restructuring in BKH Straubing, the SPD wants to know what progress has been made in this regard.
The search for the escaped convicts is still in full swing, both domestically and internationally. On Saturday evening, the four inmates at BKH Straubing intimidated and coerced a staff member to open the gate by overpowering them. These men are considered dangerous.
The SPD believes that justice necessitates a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape of the criminals from BKH Straubing and Mainkofen, as public safety should not be compromised. It's crucial for the state administration to provide clarification on how such incidents can be prevented in the future.
