Walter wants to "show Yalcinkaya a sporting path"
Coach Tim Walter is delighted with the development of his protégé Bilal Yalcinkaya at the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia. "We are also always in contact," says Walter. Yalcinkaya, who plays for the Hamburger SV youth team, recently scored the goal that sent the German team into the quarter-finals with a 3-2 win against the USA. It was Yalcinkaya's second goal of the tournament.
"We're delighted to see how the youngster is performing, because he's of course already shown that very often in training," said Walter. "So we're very happy for the youngster, but we'll also be happy when he's back." At HSV, Yalcinkaya recently made it into the matchday squad against Holstein Kiel. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old is still waiting for his professional debut.
"We support the youngster, but also challenge him," said Walter. "I think that's the crucial thing, that we try to show him a sporting path." A perspective is probably the most important thing at the moment. Yalcinkaya, who currently has a development contract with HSV, is to be kept with the Hanseatic club in the long term. The attacking midfielder has caught the eye with his current performances. Before his future is discussed in Hamburg, Yalcinkaya will face Spain with the German team on Friday (9.30 am/Sky). The tournament in Indonesia ends on December 2.
Walter is hoping to guide Yalcinkaya's career further, possibly in Bundesliga 2 with Hamburger SV, as he's currently on a development contract with the club. If Yalcinkaya continues to impress, there might be opportunities for him in the senior team, potentially even in the Bundesliga, as Hamburger SV is currently competing in Bundesliga 2.
