Left-wing top trio - Walter to join Dannenberg and Vandre in the election campaign

Brandenburg's Left Party leader Sebastian Walter is to enter the 2024 state election campaign with two women as the top trio, according to the party leadership. In addition to Walter, the state executive and state committee have nominated state parliament members Kathrin Dannenberg and Isabelle Vandre for the state list as the top candidates in second and third place, the Left Party office announced on Monday. State parliament member Thomas Domres was nominated for fourth place.

"After Sebastian Walter had already been nominated as the top candidate in September, we are now putting a strong team at his side with this proposal," said state chairwoman Katharina Slanina. However, the list will not be elected by the state assembly of representatives until the end of January in Templin.

Andrea Johlige, who has been a member of the state parliament for many years and was nominated by the state committee, will have to run against the mayor of Nuthetal, Ute Hustig, for fifth place. Hustig was nominated for this position by the board. There will be another contest for sixth place between Ronny Kretschmer, member of the state parliament (state executive committee), and Fritz Viertel, speaker in the state parliamentary group (state committee).

Dannenberg had already entered the state election campaign with Walter as the top duo in 2019. In February 2021, the 57-year-old relinquished her co-chairmanship of the state parliamentary group alongside Walter for health reasons.
