Customs - Walk-in Christmas tree ball is set up in Lauscha
Anyone out and about on an Advent stroll in the Christmas stronghold of Lauscha (Sonneberg district) could find themselves in a very special place. Construction work is currently underway for a walk-in Christmas tree bauble in the town center. "The Christmas tree bauble is a monument to Lauscha as the birthplace of the glass Christmas tree bauble," announced the Thuringian Forest Regional Association.
It has a honeycomb structure, is open in design and will feature a light column as its central element. The sphere will then stand all year round on Hüttenplatz, where Lauscha's first glassworks once began operations.
Lauscha is considered the birthplace of the Christmas bauble: glass Christmas decorations have been made here for more than 170 years. Production has been part of the intangible cultural heritage since 2021.
