Wagner leaves HSG Wetzlar at the end of the season

Backcourt player Hendrik Wagner will leave HSG Wetzlar at the end of the season. As the handball Bundesliga club announced on Wednesday, the 26-year-old three-time international had informed the club's management of this. The club had expressed interest in extending his contract, although Wagner had a difficult start to the season due to health reasons.

"In this respect, I think it's a great pity that he has opted for a future at another club at this point in time. With his positive nature, he contributes a lot to the good team atmosphere," said HSG head coach Frank Carstens. Wagner moved to the Lahn from second-division club Eulen Ludwigshafen in the summer of 2021 and has played 49 competitive games for Wetzlar to date.

Despite Wagner's decision to depart at the end of the season, HSG Wetzlar's handball Bundesliga team will continue to compete. In search of new opportunities, the talented backcourt player will be joining another club after spending the past season and a half at HSG Wetzlar, contributing 49 competitive games to their squad.
