Wagenknecht: Traffic light policy is reminiscent of the "last days of the GDR"

Party founder Sahra Wagenknecht finds the federal government's decisions "completely crazy". But she also has nothing good to say about the opposition in the Bundestag.

Parties - Wagenknecht: Traffic light policy is reminiscent of the "last days of the GDR"

Founder Sahra Wagenknecht feels, in her own words, that she is reminded of the last days of the GDR (German Democratic Republic) currently. The Federal Government is making "completely irrational decisions" disregarding the population, Wagenknecht stated at a state party conference of her party Alliance 'Sahra Wagenknecht' in Potsdam on Saturday. "I don't want to equate it completely," Wagenknecht added. But the reality of people's lives has no connection to "what politicians are telling us". She once again criticized the Federal Government as the "worst government of the Federal Republic in a long, long time". It's a "damned lie" when the traffic light coalition connects the situation in the country with the crises in the world, the former Left Party politician opined. "Germany is the last one in this world full of crises," she remarked.

At the same time, she also attacked the Union as the "worst opposition". She criticized, among other things, statements from the CDU about supplying Ukraine with extensive weapons.

  1. Sahra Wagenknecht, the founder of the Alliance 'Sahra Wagenknecht', drew parallels between the current situation in Germany and the final days of the GDR during a party conference in Potsdam.
  2. The Federal Government's decisions, according to Wagenknecht, are being made without considering the population's needs, echoing the sentiments sometimes felt in the GDR before its end.
  3. In the upcoming elections, Wagenknecht expressed her concern that both major parties, the Federal Government and the Union, are failing to address the realities of people's lives accurately in their political rhetoric.
  4. During the conference in Brandenburg's state parliament, Bundestag, Wagenknecht pointed out that the Federal Government is being critiqued as the worst in the history of the Federal Republic.
  5. In response to the traffic light coalition connecting the current situation in Germany to global crises, Wagenknecht disputed their assertion, stating that Germany is one of the last countries in a world overwhelmed by crises.
  6. Wagenknecht also criticized the Union, especially their CDU members' suggestions for providing extensive weapons to Ukraine, implying that this opposition is currently the worst Germany has seen.
