Lawmaking body revises legislation. - Wagenknecht finalizes European election campaign.
At a rally in Berlin, the Left Party alliance, spearheaded by Sahra Wagenknecht, concluded their campaign for the European elections last Thursday. With a crowd of hundreds in attendance, Wagenknecht, the party's co-founder, sharply criticized the policies of the traffic light coalition. She stated, "This has to stop."
Wagenknecht specifically blamed the Greens, but also the SPD and the FDP for being hypocritical and practicing "politics that is just incredibly deceitful." She mentioned various issues, including energy costs, retirement benefits, and wages, as areas where the government has failed.
In light of the Ukraine conflict, Wagenknecht pushed for negotiations and a ceasefire. She expressed, "War doesn't end with weapons, war ends with peace talks." Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed a desire for dialogue. "Why don't we give it a shot?" She argued that Ukrainians shooting at Russia with German weapons is "pure insanity."
When it came to Putin, who ordered the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Wagenknecht labeled him a criminal, saying that the same applies to all the American presidents who have waged wars in the last 30 years and caused countless casualties.
For the newly formed party, which just began in January, the European elections serve as their first major test. The campaign mainly consisted of Wagenknecht traveling across Germany to hold several rallies. Despite not running for the European Parliament herself, Wagenknecht hopes to stay in the Bundestag as the chairwoman of the BSW, a group of 10 MPs that split from the Left Party to establish the BSW with her.
