The chemical conglomerate Wacker is set to manufacture millions of vaccine doses at its facility in Halle. The organization recently launched a competence center, where substances involving messenger RNA (mRNA) will be manufactured, per their announcement. Building this center set the company back over 100 million euros, as they reported.

As of now, more than 100 positions have been created in the facility, the company noted. With capacity to produce over 200 million doses of vaccine each year, the center will also be capable of accommodating the federal government's need for rapid vaccine delivery in case of a pandemic.

During the opening ceremony, Wacker's board chairman, Christian Hartel, remarked, "The launch of our mRNA competence center in Halle is a landmark for Wacker. We're producing substances here for the medicines of the future - for the federal government, but also for other clients." Some of the attendees included the Federal Commissioner for Eastern Germany, Carsten Schneider, along with Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Economics, Sven Schulze (CDU), and Minister of Science, Armin Willingmann (SPD).

On top of mRNA vaccines, Wacker also produces vaccines utilizing microbial systems, according to their statements. The company's headquarters are situated in Munich.
