VW cuts e-car production in Zwickau again
Part of the production at Volkswagen's e-car factory in Zwickau is being shut down again. The reason for this is a lack of motors, a company spokesperson said on request. These are being sourced from the plant in Kassel. However, fewer of the required electric motors are currently being produced there due to disruptions in the supply chain, he said. Volkswagen wants to secure the ramp-up of the ID.7 model in Emden so that the motors are preferably delivered there - to the detriment of the Zwickau site.
It was only in October that VW cut back the production of electric cars in Saxony for two weeks. The reason given at the time was weakening demand. The new production break should begin on Thursday with the late shift. The production line for the ID.4, ID.5 and two Audi models will then be shut down for around three weeks. Production of the ID.3 and the Cupra Born will reportedly continue. According to the company, around 1500 employees will be affected. Among other things, further training measures are planned for them. The "Freie Presse" had previously reported on the move.
The car industry's disruptions in the supply chain are affecting Volkswagen's production of electric motors, causing a reduction in production at their Car's factory in Kassel. Due to this, Volkswagen is prioritizing the delivery of electric motors to their Car factory in Emden, impacting the production at the Car factory in Zwickau.
