Ballots - Von der Leyen vows to never allow Europe to become weaker.

During times of crisis and threats from Russia and extremists, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has emphasized the importance of a strong and united Europe. Speaking at the closing event of the CDU and CSU in Munich on Friday night, she stated, "The European Union is not a given, it's not a self-run organization." She continued, "We're facing challenges from populists, extremists, and demagogues, like Marine Le Pen of France and the AfD in Germany."

She noted that these extremists all share a common goal: "They want to weaken, destroy, and ruin our Europe." To counter this, von der Leyen plans to form a broad alliance for the rule of law, Ukraine, and a strong Europe. Weber, the CSU's top candidate, spoke out against the AfD, specifically the group surrounding Björn Höcke, stating, "We won't let these neo-Nazis destroy our Europe."

Von der Leyen reiterated her call for a strengthened common defense policy in response to the Russian threat. "If we want to maintain peace on our continent," she said, "we cannot hesitate." She urged Europe to invest more in its defense and defense industry, emphasizing, "We want a Europe that can defend itself."

Furthermore, she advocated for a more consistent European migration policy and more measures regarding climate protection. "We owe the preserved nature to our children and grandchildren," she declared.

The latest polls predict that the CDU and CSU will win the European election in Germany on Sunday with a significant lead. Von der Leyen is campaigning for a second term as head of the EU Commission, while CSU Vice President Weber aspires to remain the party leader and group leader in the European Parliament.
