Bundesliga - Volleyball champions BR Volleys sign middle blocker Knigge
Berlin Volleys, the German Volleyball champion, is pushing for its squad overhaul in large steps. The capital city club has now signed a new middle blocker from Bundesliga rival SVG Lüneburg, Matthew Knigge. The BR Volleys announced this on Friday. The "Tagesspiegel" (Friday edition) reported on the transfer first. The club did not disclose the contract duration.
Volleys trainer Joel Banks considers Knigge a "very intelligent player who combines discipline with a good sense for the situation." Regarding himself, the 2.02-meter-tall US-American states, "Although I am a middle blocker, my strengths are currently more in attack and serving."
The 28-year-old Knigge is already the seventh new signing for the BR Volleys for the 2024/25 season. In contrast, there are eight player departures. For its 14-player roster, the team is missing only one outside hitter. In the middle block, however, the Volleys are already complete. Trainer Joel Banks can choose between four players for the two free positions there. Besides Knigge, he has Nehemiah Mote, Tobias Krick, and Florian Krage, another new signing from Spacer's Toulouse Volley, at his disposal.
