Völler confirms: German European Championship quarters in Herzogenaurach

The preparations for the European Championships are gathering pace. As expected, the national team is staying in Franconia again. Sports director Völler thinks that's great, but the tournament hostel has not yet been a symbol of success.

Völler confirms: German European Championship quarters in Herzogenaurach

The German national soccer team will once again move into its team quarters in Herzogenaurach during the home European Championships. As sports director Rudi Völler confirmed in an exclusive interview with Blickpunkt Sport on BR television and br24sport online, the so-called Home Ground of equipment supplier Adidas will be the base camp of national coach Julian Nagelsmann's team next summer. The solution already envisaged under his predecessor Hansi Flick will no longer be changed.

"The important thing, and this is certain, is that we will be in Herzogenaurach during the European Championship. We have wonderful opportunities to train there," said Völler. The relative proximity to the three venues for the group matches in Munich on June 14, Stuttgart on June 19 and Frankfurt on June 23 is also an argument in favor of the Franconian venue. "We can travel there by bus," said the 63-year-old.

Völler did not yet want to reveal where Nagelsmann intends to hold the training camp before the tournament. According to dpa information, two or three locations in Germany are currently being discussed, one of them in the east. The immediate preparations will probably begin shortly after the end of the Bundesliga season and the subsequent cup final at the end of May.

However, the DFB squad does not have only good memories of the home ground. The national team also stayed there during the 2021 European Championship and the Nations League matches in summer 2022 under Nagelsmann's predecessors Joachim Löw and Hansi Flick. There were only two wins in a total of eight international matches.
