After the stabbing incident in Solingen - Voigt unveils shift in migration policy approach
Thuringia's leading CDU candidate has suggested shifts in migration policies if their party takes part in the upcoming administration. Voigt spoke in Erfurt, stating, "We're planning significant transformations." He proposed setting up exclusive deportation detention centers within Thuringia and a center specifically for locking up foreign lawbreakers. Furthermore, Voigt suggested central housing for individuals lacking prospects of staying in repatriation centers.
Voigt proposed that one court should handle all asylum proceedings. "In essence, it should be: in-kind aid instead of direct financial help, and state-wide payment cards." He proposed work obligations for all asylum seekers within Thuringia, much like some regions already do. "There will be a shift in Thuringian migration policies."
The announcement of the CDU's revised migration policies was triggered by the Solingen incident. Voigt stated, "Solingen demonstrates that things can't carry on as they are. The era of appeasement is over."
Thuringia's state election is scheduled for September 1st. Voigt aspires to secure the role of Minister President, with his CDU currently trailing behind the AfD in polls.
The CDU's leading candidate in Thuringia, Voigt, supports the Commission's proposal for changing migration policies, which includes setting up exclusive detention centers. Voigt further suggested a shift in policies, proposing a centralized court for asylum proceedings, in-kind aid instead of direct financial help, and work obligations for all asylum seekers.
