- Voigt formally designated as head of the CDU Parliamentary Group
Mario Voigt has been chosen as the head of the fresh CDU group in the Thuringian state legislature. The decision was consensus, as a representative from the Erfurt-based CDU group stated. Voigt served as the CDU's primary candidate during the election period and has been leading the Christian Democrats since March 2020. He's been a part of the legislature since 2009.
At 47, Voigt's goal is to ascend to the position of Minister-President and is currently negotiating with various parties to establish a coalition under his leadership. A probable partnership seems to be a setup involving CDU, BSW, and SPD, relying on The Left's tolerance.
Andreas Bühl was officially appointed as the CDU faction's parliamentary manager during the meeting, as a spokesperson announced. He garnered 21 'yes' votes with two 'abstentions.'
Voigt's new role as the head of the CDU group in the Landtag will allow him to negotiate effectively for a potential coalition with BSW, SPD, and The Left. In order to form a majority, the CDU needs the tolerance of The Left in the Landtag.
