Illegal Activities - Voigt condemns assaults on political figures.
Mario Voigt, the head of Thuringia's CDU, has expressed his disapproval of an assault on an AfD politician in Mannheim. He tweeted, "Assaults and attacks as a way to settle political differences are completely unacceptable! It doesn't matter who's involved," on Wednesday. Voigt added that such acts are an attack on democracy and that they will not be tolerated.
The mayor of Mannheim was targeted with a knife during the recent municipal election campaign. Governor's Office sources told the German Press Agency on Wednesday that the attack happened the previous evening. The assailant was taken into custody. The Mannheim Police confirmed investigations on Wednesday morning. The AfD district association reported that the candidate apprehended thieves taking down AfD posters. When he challenged one of the thieves, he was stabbed with a knife.
