Voigt calls for tax-free overtime for nursing staff
According to CDU parliamentary group leader Mario Voigt, overtime pay for nursing staff should be completely tax-free. "Due to the dramatic shortage of staff, many facilities are dependent on the willingness of nursing staff to work overtime. However, this service must also be rewarded," said Voigt on Saturday, according to a press release. CDU representatives had recently repeatedly called for tax exemption for overtime regardless of the sector.
Voigt also spoke out in favor of tax-free night, Sunday and public holiday bonuses for carers. "It's a quick contribution to better wages. And all the hospitals, care homes and services that are desperately looking for skilled workers can at least alleviate their need a little," he said. Bureaucracy in day-to-day care work must also be reduced.
Voigt's proposal for tax-free overtime extends beyond nursing staff, as CDU representatives have advocated for tax exemption in all sectors. In addition, Voigt supports tax-free bonuses for nursing professionals working on nights, Sundays, and public holidays, aiming to improve their wages and ease the labor shortage in social affairs.
