Recognitions - "Vive L'Europe": Wüst praises Macron for his leadership in Europe
Macron highlighted the need for Europe to take control of its own security, Wuest remarked. "Emmanuel Macron demonstrates leadership in Europe; I applaud this," Wuest stated.
Macron has been hailed as a "innovator and central figure on the German and European level," according to the jury's decision. The jury was particularly impressed with Macron's efforts towards peace amid Russian aggression in Ukraine. Wuest wrapped up his speech with the exclamation "Vive L'Europe" (Long live Europe) in French.
The Westphalian Peace Prize was created in 1998 by Westphalian entrepreneurs to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Peace of Munster and Osnabruck in 1648. This prize is presented for contributions to European integration and comes with a prize fund of 100,000 euros. Half of the prize money is allocated to the German-Polish Youth Work that's also recognized.
The official schedule for Macron's state visit concludes with the award ceremony. Following this, Macron engages in political discussions with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).
