Vivantes investigates allegations against former hospital manager

The Vivantes clinics are investigating allegations against a former manager who is said to have manipulated duty rosters. "They came up in the course of an internal investigation after the person in question had already left the company," a spokesperson said in response to an inquiry. The "Berliner Morgenpost" had previously reported.

According to the newspaper report, employees who are "not directly involved in patient care" are said to have been written into the duty rosters retrospectively. Vivantes could not yet comment on the details mentioned due to the ongoing investigation, according to the press office.

The spokesperson confirmed a further suspected case, according to which cardiac catheterization procedures were allegedly carried out at the Auguste-Viktoria Hospital in Schöneberg without medical cause. The newspaper had also reported on this. The allegations were made by a former employee after she had left the hospital, the spokesperson said. The criticism was "sweeping" and "not related to specific cases".

Both cases were reported to the compliance officer immediately after they came to light, who is investigating them. "The internal investigations are still ongoing in both cases, which is why no decision has yet been made as to whether criminal charges need to be filed," said the spokesperson.

Compliance allegations in another case at Vivantes came to light a few months ago. According to these allegations, there were irregularities in numerous construction contracts at a subsidiary of the state-owned hospital. At the time, the Supervisory Board decided to file a criminal complaint with the public prosecutor's office. The public prosecutor's office confirmed on request that a criminal complaint had been filed. It still had to be examined whether there was any initial suspicion.

In light of the ongoing internal investigations, there have been concerns raised about the security of patient records in some of the Vivantes hospitals due to potential manipulation of duty rosters. Additionally, a former employee reported alleged criminal activity involving cardiac catheterization procedures without medical necessity at the Auguste-Viktoria Hospital in Schöneberg, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures in hospital settings to prevent and address crime.
