CNN has encountered protesters as young as 18, asserting they're battling for their future. One young protester spoke to CNN's Larry Madowo, stating, "President Ruto, observe the tears of the children of Kenya. Observe the tears of the women in Kenya."

The government has faced criticism and protests since Tuesday due to the contentious bill, compelling them to revise it following numerous demonstrations outside the nation's Parliament building.

Among the taxes withdrawn was a 16% value-added tax on bread and a 2.5% tax on motor vehicles, according to Kenya's presidency. Proposed hikes in mobile money transfer fees were also suspended, along with taxes on vegetable oil. Furthermore, taxes on locally produced goods such as diapers and sanitary pads were dropped.

However, these adjustments have fallen short in appeasing protesters who demand the bill be withdrawn entirely.

Arrests were logged in Nairobi earlier on Tuesday, with at least 283 people, including journalists reporting on the protests, detained by the police, as per reports from civil society groups.

Young Kenyans, often referred to as GenZs, are against these measures and are utilizing social media platforms such as TikTok to spread their message.

TikTok, previously known for its short, captivating videos, has transformed into a hub for social and political activism.

The live streaming feature on TikTok has proven instrumental during the protests, with activists employing it to give real-time updates, transmit live from protest zones, and document any incidents of police brutality or overreach.
