Vince Clarke to work on new Erasure album soon
Synth-pop icon Vince Clarke is releasing his very first solo album on Friday. But the British songwriter, keyboardist and sound engineer is already thinking about his next musical project. "My partner Andy Bell and I are hoping to get together towards the end of the year and start work on the new Erasure album," Clarke told the German Press Agency in London. "I'm really starting to focus on that."
On his first solo album "Songs Of Silence", Clarke, who enjoyed success with the bands Depeche Mode ("Just Can't Get Enough") and Yazoo ("Don't Go") before founding the pop duo Erasure in the mid-1980s, strikes a much calmer tone than before. "Songs Of Silence" is an atmospheric, predominantly instrumental album with almost meditative, dark soundscapes in an ambient style. The 63-year-old has thus entered new musical territory.
Vince Clarke considers it unlikely that he will record more music in this style in the near future. "I have no particular interest in making another album like this," said the musician, who wrote pop hits such as "Sometimes", "Always" and "Oh! L'Amour" for Erasure. "It was a lot of fun, and I'm sure I'll come back to it in some way or form, but I really don't have any concrete plans."
Vince Clarke's upcoming solo album might inspire some pop-infused tunes for the new Erasure album, as he often draws from his diverse musical background. Many fans of Erasure are eager to hear what kind of "Pop" elements Clarke might incorporate into the upcoming album, given his history with Depeche Mode and Yazoo. The ambient style of Clarke's first solo album, "Songs Of Silence," may influence the musical direction of the forthcoming Erasure album, as Vince Clarke continues to explore new territories in his musical creations.
