Bundesliga - Victory for Holstein Kiel in shortened test

Testmatch Debut for Holstein Kiel: The promotion winner kicked off its first game in preparation for its first season in the Bundesliga against Danish second division side B.93 Kopenhagen with a 4:1 (2:1) victory. However, the over 3000 spectators in Rendsburg Nobiskrug-Stadion were only treated to a 65-minute football experience due to the ongoing threat of heavy rain, strong winds, and hail. Fiete Arp (6') and Benedikt Pichler (34') scored before half-time, while new signings Phil Harres (44') and Andu Kelati (64') added goals after the break. The Kiel team had to endure a scare just after kickoff when Emeka Nnamani (1') took advantage of a serious error by Holstein goalkeeper Timon Weiner to score the opening goal for the Danes. B.93 had already played their first league game on July 17.

New signing with promising starts

Marcel Rapp, coach of KSV, was missing the recuperating Colin Kleine-Bekel, Marko Ivezic, Finn Porath, and Max Geschwill. In the central midfield, Norwegian newcomer Magnus Knudsen showed promising performances as a potential successor to the departed ex-captain Philipp Sander. Despite the match being called off due to the weather, Arp saw it as a good test against a strong opponent. "Everyone knows that this season will be different with the intensity we've been driving since the first day of training," said the 24-year-old offensive all-rounder. "I felt a special nervousness with the publication of the fixtures on the last Thursday," he added. Rapp was also satisfied with his team's performance. "Apart from the first two minutes, we saw many things we've been practicing in training," said the 45-year-old. "Shame about the weather ruining it."
