For the ceremonial opening, the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, is expected, as well as numerous international scholars. Positions for guest lecturers and scholarships are to be financed. In addition, the scientific work focuses on the history and culture of Ukraine, but also on the Ukraine War and legal processing.

For the establishment of an Ukraine Center, Viadrina received funding in the amount of around 2.5 million Euros from the DAAD, as already announced in March. To this new competence alliance belong the Center for Eastern European and International Studies, Humboldt University Berlin, Free University Berlin, Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and the Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin.

The Viadrina-University already opened the Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studies in 2023. The university maintains a close exchange with Ukraine, and young Ukrainian women and men study there.
