VfL Bochum closes financial year 2022/23 with a profit
VfL Bochum generated a surplus of a good eight million euros in the 2022/23 financial year. Income of around 86.8 million euros was offset by expenses of around 78.7 million euros, as the Bundesliga club announced at its general meeting on Tuesday. The transfers of defender Armel Bella-Kotchap, who moved to Southampton FC for around eleven million euros in the summer of 2022, and defender Maxim Leitsch, who went to FSV Mainz 05 for around 3.5 million euros, played a major role in the surplus.
Partly because VfL did not generate any comparable revenue in the last transfer period, the team currently 14th in the table is expecting a loss of around four million euros for the current season. Bochum's licensed player budget has risen from 32 million euros last season to 41 million euros. "This controlled offensive is possible due to the surplus in the past two years," said Bochum's managing director Ilja Kaenzig on Tuesday.
The Ruhr club's liabilities are expected to amount to 6.4 million euros at the end of this season. VfL aims to be debt-free by 2030.
VfL Bochum's strong financial performance in the 2022/23 Bundesliga season, with a profit of eight million euros, has allowed them to boost their licensed player budget for the current season to 41 million euros. Despite expecting a loss of around four million euros for the current season due to reduced transfer revenue, VfL Bochum's participation in the Bundesliga, such as their recent match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, continues to generate income for the club.
