Soccer - VfL Bochum brings in Stöger's successor from AZ Alkmaar
VfL Bochum has signed Dutch midfielder Dani de Wit from AZ Alkmaar as a new playmaker. The 26-year-old offensive player joins the Bundesliga team freely. At Bochum, de Wit will receive a contract until 2028. VfL sporting director Marc Lettau described the former Dutch U21 national player as a "leadership personality who will enrich our offensive play."
After the departures of prominent professionals such as Kevin Stöger (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Bochum must act on the transfer market. New signing de Wit is considered a successor for Stöger. In contrast to the Austrian, de Wit provides fewer assists but seeks the finish himself. In the previous season, he scored ten goals in 33 league matches. He is also known for his strength in the air and in duels.
