Soccer - VfB Stuttgart finally gives up Gil Dias

Football-Bundesligist VfB Stuttgart and offensive player Gil Dias have permanently parted ways. The 27-year-old is returning to his Portuguese homeland to join FC Famalicão. The top-tier club announced that he has signed a contract until 2027.

Gil Dias joined VfB Stuttgart from Benfica Lisbon in January 2023 but could not establish himself at the club. Consequently, the vice-champion loaned him out to Legia Warsaw in the previous season. Now, the Portuguese is leaving the Stuttgarter for good.

VfB Stuttgart's departure from the Bundesliga could potentially impact the team's transfer strategy this summer. The news of Gil Dias' move to FC Famalicão in his native Portugal is a significant shift for soccer in Baden-Württemberg, as one of Germany's renowned teams loses a prominent player. Dias' transfer back to Portugal marks the end of his temporary stint at VfB Stuttgart, which started with his arrival from Benfica Lisbon in mid-2023.
