- VfB boss Alexander Wehrle has married a friend
Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle has tied the knot. The 49-year-old CEO of Bundesliga football club VfB Stuttgart exchanged vows with his long-term partner Thomas Kugler on August 3rd, with 150 guests including co-presidents Rouven Kasper and Fabian Wohlgemuth in attendance on the picturesque island of Mainau. The couple first met 25 years ago while studying at Lake Constance.
Wehrle had previously announced the wedding publicly, stating, "We're very much looking forward to it. But beyond that, it remains our private affair," to German Press Agency.
Successor to Thomas Hitzlsperger
Wehrle's career in German professional football began in 2003 as a board advisor for VfB Stuttgart. In 2013, he moved to 1. FC Köln as a managing director and returned to Stuttgart in March 2022 to succeed Thomas Hitzlsperger as CEO.
Additionally, Wehrle serves as the chairman of the supervisory board of DFB GmbH & Co. KG and is a member of the supervisory board of DFL Digital Sports GmbH. After Stuttgart narrowly avoided relegation in the 2022/23 season, they finished second behind champions Bayer Leverkusen in the following season, securing a spot in the Champions League.
After their successful season, VfB Stuttgart might consider some strategic transfers to further strengthen their squad for the upcoming Champions League campaign. Previous transfers under Wehrle's tenure, such as the signing of Kevin Vogt, have proven to be beneficial for the team.
