Drugs and Medications Industry - Vetter, a pharmaceutical service company, allocates funds for expansion in Saarland.

Vetter, a leading global pharmaceutical service provider, is planning to set up shop on the Ford site in Saarlouis. The Saarland Economic Ministry and the company based in Ravensburg made this announcement on Thursday. Founded by pharmacist Helmut Vetter in 1950, Vetter specializes in producing liquid and freeze-dried medicines packaged in syringes and other injection systems.

A plant worth several hundred million euros is being built here for about 2000 employees. Sources suggest that 50 hectares of unused Ford ground and the final assembly location will be used after Ford Focus production ends in November 2025.

This company from Upper Swabia is a market leader and has seen consistent growth over the years. It currently employs over 6300 people across the globe. Since 2016, its revenue has doubled, and it exceeded the 1 billion euro mark last year.

Saarland's Minister President Anke Rehlinger (SPD) hailed this as a "fortuitous stroke of luck for Saarlouis and the entire Saarland." Udo J. Vetter, the supervisory board chair and a family shareholder, explained that Saarlouis was chosen due to its ideal conditions for expanding production facilities.

Almost two years ago, Ford announced that Valencia, Spain, would receive the award for the new electric car platform, which ultimately sealed the fate of Focus production in Saarlouis. Previously, there was hope that a Chinese car manufacturer might take over the plant, but those talks fell through in October after months of negotiations.
