Ansbach - Veterinary office retrieves horses from neglected stables

Quarter-meter-high horse excrement, damp and dirty straw and scrap metal lying around: the veterinary office at the Ansbach district office has taken two of a total of four horses from such accommodation. As the district office announced on Thursday, there was also no drinking water for the animals in the remote round tent with a mud paddock in the district of Ansbach. In addition, the horses had escaped at the end of November and beginning of December and had endangered traffic.

Employees of the veterinary office confiscated two of the horses on Wednesday of last week. The Ansbach Administrative Court had previously dismissed the owner's appeal against the measures ordered. Overall, the veterinary office assessed the area as "highly prone to injury and dangerous for animals". The area was therefore very muddy and dirty, with scrap metal, vehicle parts and building rubble lying around. At the same time, the fencing made of provisionally tied wooden pallets and building materials would not have sufficiently prevented the horses from escaping. In the tent, the horses, including a pony, had to take their food from a bale on a wooden pallet at a height of one meter.

According to the information provided, the veterinary staff noticed signs of neglect in all four horses. One mare and one stallion were not used to a halter, being led by a rope or hoof care. The stallion in particular had reacted frightened and aggressively, kicking and trying to bite the employees. The stallion and mare were taken to a professional stable for further examination and care. The owner had to bear the costs.
