People - Verhoeven suffered from his role as Senta Berger's son
Producer and screenwriter Simon Verhoeven does not want his son to suffer from his family's success in his possible professional future. "I want to spare my son from being the son of - as was the case with me," said the 51-year-old.
As the child of actress Senta Berger (82), it was not easy for him to "build something of his own" in the industry, he told the German Press Agency in an interview. "I was often asked: Did your mother help you get this job?" It wasn't easy, he said. "It's tough competition and there were starting advantages for me, but there were also disadvantages and an extra dose of malice when something didn't work out."
The filmmaker is now delighted about his son's interest in the film, but also took a critical look at the future. "My son David is very talented when it comes to film," he said. But education also plays a role in this. "We go to the movies like other people go to church," said Verhoeven.
The 13-year-old had already been asked for a small acting role - but had turned it down because of school. Instead, he was seen working in the field in an opening scene in the new Verhoeven film "Girl You Know Its True".
