Process - Verdict in murder trial against young mother on December 19
In the trial of a 24-year-old woman accused of murdering her child, the public prosecutor has demanded a life sentence. As the Rostock Regional Court announced on Thursday, the prosecution considered it proven that the young mother had neglected her two sons, aged one and four, out of base motives. The one-year-old child died in September 2021. The defense pleaded for a suspended prison sentence of no more than one and a half years for involuntary manslaughter. The verdict is due to be handed down on December 19.
According to the prosecution, the woman allegedly failed to provide her one-year-old child with sufficient food and fluids at all times and did not consult a doctor when he became ill. Instead, she left her young son alone in her apartment to spend time with her boyfriend. The boy died as a result of severe diarrhea from a clot in his pulmonary arteries. The defendant said during the trial that she was completely overwhelmed at the time.
