Crime - Verdict expected in murder trial against young mother

The Rostock Regional Court will announce its verdict against a young mother accused of murder by omission on Tuesday (2 p.m.). According to the indictment, the 24-year-old allegedly did not provide her one-year-old son with sufficient food and fluids and did not consult a doctor when he became ill. Instead, she left the child alone in her apartment to spend time with her boyfriend. The boy died in September 2021 as a result of severe diarrhea due to a clot in his pulmonary arteries. The public prosecutor demanded a life sentence. The defense pleaded for a suspended prison sentence of no more than one and a half years for involuntary manslaughter.
