Verdict expected against parents of injured toddler
The verdict is expected today at Frankenthal District Court in the trial against the parents of a toddler who was seriously injured three years ago. The lawyers for the parents, a 32-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man, are demanding acquittal. In contrast, the public prosecutor, who has charged the parents with abuse of wards, is arguing for a prison sentence of between four and five years for the father and a suspended sentence for failing to provide assistance for the mother. The son, who was only a few months old, had to undergo emergency surgery in 2020 due to internal injuries caused by violence.
The parents' legal team strongly advocates for acquittal, arguing that the processes leading to the charges have not sufficiently proven their guilt. Regardless of today's judgments, the consequences could significantly impact the parents' lives and future relationships with their child.
