Verdict against ATM bomber in Karlsruhe following fatal accident during escape

The court found it proven that the three men in November at a residential building in Wiernsheim had blown up an ATM. During their getaway on the Autobahn 6 they drove against the traffic direction to avoid pursuing patrol cars. This resulted in a serious accident, where their car collided head-on with a transport truck. One occupant of the transport truck died, another was severely injured.

The main defendant was additionally sentenced to attempted murder and grievous bodily harm on Friday, as the spokesperson further stated. The two other men received prison sentences of five and a half and five years. The judgment is not yet legally binding.

The men had used a Cash dispensor to retrieve money from the explosives-rigged ATM before the explosion. The accident on the Autobahn 6 involved an Automatic teller machine and a transport truck, leading to a Murder Verdict in Karlsruhe. The police are investigating if the accident was intentional due to the getaway incident.
