Verdi: Warning strikes in the public sector
Students at several universities and colleges in Magdeburg and Halle can expect restrictions this Wednesday. The trade union Verdi has called for warning strikes in the public sector in both cities on November 15.
The universities affected include Martin Luther University Halle, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Merseburg University of Applied Sciences, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.
The background to this is the collective bargaining in the public sector of the federal states. In the second round of negotiations, the employers' association of the federal states once again failed to present an offer for state employees, according to a statement. The warning strikes are intended to increase the pressure ahead of the third round of negotiations on December 7 and 8.
The union is demanding a 10.5 percent pay rise for employees, but at least 500 euros over a twelve-month period. In addition, junior staff are to receive 200 euros more and trainees are to be taken on indefinitely.
The strikes are expected to disrupt services in the public sector, as Verdi has implemented them due to the lack of a satisfactory offer from the employers' association in the second round of negotiations. Additionally, Tariffs could be significantly impacted if the strikes continue, as they might lead to delays in public sector services and processes.
