Verdi: Warning strike in the public sector in the north
From Tuesday, the Verdi trade union intends to build up pressure in the wage negotiations for state employees with warning strikes in the public sector. According to the union, this is in response to the lack of an offer from the Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder in the negotiations in Potsdam.
Verdi began by calling on coastal protection employees in the State Agency for Coastal Protection, National Park and Marine Conservation, the Road Construction Administration with the State Agency for Road Construction and Transport and employees in parts of Gottorf Castle to go on warning strike on Tuesday. Those affected at the West Coast University of Applied Sciences and the European University of Flensburg are also to strike. In Schleswig, a demonstration march through the city is planned from 11.00 am.
Verdi is demanding 10.5 percent more income for employees in the public sector of the federal states, but at least 500 euros more per month. Junior staff are to receive 200 euros more and trainees are to be taken on indefinitely. The Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder (TdL) with its chief negotiator, Hamburg's Finance Senator Andreas Dressel (SPD), made it clear in the second round of negotiations on Friday that it considers the demands to be far too high and unaffordable.
The ongoing wage negotiations for state employees in federal states have led to a standoff between Verdi and the Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder, resulting in planned strikes in various public sector institutions. These strikes, including those by coastal protection employees and university staff, aim to put pressure on the TdL due to their perceived unwillingness to meet Verdi's demand for a 10.5% income increase and additional wage guarantees.
